Deadpool & Wolverine

Moviegoers has been experiencing a bad case of marvel fatigue. Ever since phase 3 ended with “Avengers: Endgame” the offerings from Marvel Studios have been plentiful between films and their TV shows on Disney+, but the quality has mostly been lacking. When it was announced the third Deadpool movie would now feature huge Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine for a team up, there was a glimmer of hope and a light at the end of the tunnel. If “Deadpool & Wolverine” were to fall flat that could be the surest sign that people were going to give up on comic book movies. Have no fear because the two mutants have delivered big time and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been saved!

Deadpool/Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) has adjusted to a life of retirement. Now working as car salesman. He is fine with this life until the Time Variance Authority comes knocking on his door. His universe is about to be wiped out thanks to the death of Wolverine that happened in the movie, “Logan”.  However, now that the multiverse has been introduced, Wade finds another Wolverine. Too bad it is the “worst one.” They will have to put any differences aside if they are going to defeat a new super villain too.

From the opening scene that sees Deadpool face off against a group TVA agents you know this is going to be a fun ride. It also shows that Disney has no issue letting Ryan Reynolds and company do what they do best as some wondered when the Mouse House got the rights if they would allow a R-rated MCU movie to happen. There really is not a dull action scene throughout the whole movie and there are plenty to feast upon.

Speaking of action scenes the battles between Deadpool and Wolverine are truly epic. Ryan Reynolds and Huge Jackman leave everything up on the screen. It plays out better than fans could have imagined. The chemistry between Reynolds and Jackman is marvelous. You can see it right now as they go around promoting the movie. Ever since the video announcement came out stating the team up was going to happen fans have been hyped out about it. It’s gratifying that the film met the hype.

One part of this review that cannot really be touched on are the cameos that occur. Needless to say to spoil any of them would almost be a crime. The best way to experience them is to see them for yourself. There are some really big surprises in “Deadpool  & Wolverine” many of which you will never see coming.

Is “Deadpool & Wolverine” perfect? No, it is not. There some bumps along the way. Some critics have given the film poor review. But if you read those they base those as if they were judging on whether the film should be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. That’s not the film that was set out to be made. The aim was to create a fulfilled, action packed, humorous comic book movie reminding fans on why they love this little subgenre so much. It also had the task to save the MCU for fading away. It accomplished both in spades!
